Randy Stonehill

Randy Stonehill is one of the pioneers of contemporary Christian music, widely recognized for his heartfelt lyrics, engaging storytelling, and ability to weave humor and faith into songs that have touched audiences for more than five decades. His influence spans generations, from fans who grew up on his early records in the 1970s to new listeners discovering his music today through his live performances and collaborations.

Randy’s career began in 1971 with the release of his debut album Born Twice, but it was his landmark 1976 record Welcome to Paradise — produced by Larry Norman — that established him as a central voice in the emerging Christian music movement. Welcome to Paradise is often cited as one of the most influential Christian albums of all time, with CCM Magazine listing it among the “Top 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music.”

Over the years, Randy has released 27 albums, in addition to contributing to numerous compilations and productions. His catalog includes classics such as The Sky Is Falling, Equator, Love Beyond Reason, and Wonderama. Songs like “Shut De Do” and “I Thirst for You” have become enduring standards, blending folk, rock, pop, and acoustic traditions with themes of hope and redemption. Along the way, he has shared the stage and studio with artists such as Phil Keaggy, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, and Larry Norman, helping to shape and expand the landscape of Christian music.

Born on March 12, 1952, in Stockton, California, Randy grew up with a love for music and storytelling that would become the heart of his career. By the mid-70s he was touring widely, building a loyal following with his mix of tender ballads, witty stage presence, and an honesty that resonated deeply with audiences. His work has received lifetime achievement recognition from multiple Christian music circles, cementing his reputation as one of the genre’s most beloved songwriters and performers.

Today, Randy continues to perform across the United States and beyond, captivating audiences with concerts that blend music, humor, and testimony. Whether playing solo with his guitar or alongside longtime friends and collaborators, his mission remains the same as it was at the beginning: to use music as a means of sharing the truth and hope of the Gospel. For over 50 years, Randy Stonehill has been telling stories through song — and he shows no signs of slowing down.
